My Drain is Blocked!

My drain is Blocked - what happens next

What are the common problems

If you are going to try to fix it yourself - click here

Otherwise, you need to call a drainage engineer.

What should the drainage engineer do.

The 1st thing they should do is work out where the blockage is - perhaps its just a simple ubend blockage that needs a few good strokes with a plunger and problem solved.

More likely the problem will be in your drains proper. The engineer will rod the drains which in most cases will clear the blockage and solve your problem.

What else could the drain engineer do

Many drain cleaning companies will recommend a cctv survey and high pressure jetting. In some cases both of these can be very useful, in particular where rodding doesn't seem to solve the problem. In many cases these are a more profitable way of cleaning drains.

Is that entirely necessary

If a good rodding clears the drains then a pressure wash and cctv survey won't necessarily be needed.

Usually the drain engineer will be able to gauge by the flow whether the work has been successful - maybe the problem was over enthusiasm with the toilet paper - have you got kids in the house?

If rodding doesn't work then it is useful to know why the drains won't flow, hence having a look using closed circuit television. This will help to tell the engineer what the problem is - perhaps your drains are scaled or collapsed?

If it's just a normal problem, what will it cost?

We usually charge under £100, which includes a 72 hours guarantee - if the problem hasn't been properly fixed, you will know within that time.

Most of the big drain cleaning companies charge over £100.

Do I have to provide tea and biscuits
